Britain’s longest-serving monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, is laid to rest at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle

Queen Elizabeth II took her last breath on September 8, 2022, after reigning for 70 years. After the death of the Monarch, her state funeral is predicted to become one of the most watched events in recent history. It is the biggest royal funeral of this century.

St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle is the chosen burial place for the final resting place of Queen Elizabeth II. After the Queen took her last breath, her coffin was kept at Westminster Hall for four days so that people could pay their respects to the UK’s longest-serving monarch. As expected, long lines of people were seen, and people were waiting to bid farewell to their queen. Monarchists waited for hours for one last glimpse of the queen’s dead body and to say goodbye to their beloved monarch.

After 10 days, the coffin of the monarch was taken to St. George’s Chapel, where more than 2000 dignitaries are expected to attend her funeral. It is expected to become the century’s biggest funeral as London’s streets are packed to watch the queen’s funeral procession. It is not necessary to mention that millions of people all over the world will watch this state funeral live.

The chosen burial place has been the coronation church since 1066 and has been the final resting destination for 17 members of the royal family. The Queen will be laid to rest alongside her parents, George VI and Queen Elizabeth. The late husband of the queen (Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh) passed away on April 9, 2021, and was also laid to rest at the same place.

The mortals of the queen’s husband were kept at the Royal Vault in St George’s Chapel, so following the state funeral of the queen, his mortals will also be moved to lie beside her and her parents in the memorial chapel.

According to the wish of the queen, her son, King Charles III, will be the successor monarch. The UK announced the start of the mourning period starting on the 8th of September, and it will continue across the country for the week even after the funeral of their beloved queen.
