The Goodall Gallery at Columbia College presents its Fifth Annual South Carolina Art Teachers Invitational Exhibition. The group exhibition features nine South Carolina art educators covering a wide variety of media and content.  The exhibit opens January 3 and continues through February 3, 2011, with an artists’ reception on Friday, January 21st, from 5:30 – 7 p.m.

The annual exhibit showcases art educators and highlights their artistic endeavors.  Artists this year include:  Colin Dodd, Midlands Technical College; Ben Gilliam, SC Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities; Nick Hendrix, Blythewood High School; Scott Hoffman, Dutch Fork High School; Christy Plecha, Mauldin High School; Rebecca Stockham, Fine Arts Center of Greenville County; Keith Tolen, Camden Middle School; Steven Whetstone, Private Art Instructor and Enid Williams, Greenville Technical College. A wide variety of media will be shown including sculpture, mixed media, drawing, photography, and painting.

It goes without saying that within every art teacher there is an artist. While working hard as educators, these individuals also remain practicing artists outside the classroom, remaining engaged and inspired by the creative process that also influences their teaching methods.  South Carolina boasts a wide range of public and private art programs with dedicated instructors that foster a variety of training for young artists from every age level and background.  As young people rise through artistic education and become professional artists, there is usually an art teacher responsible for their development.  This exhibition is an opportunity to view art educators as their artistic self while appreciating their role and impact as educators.

The Goodall Gallery at Columbia College is located in the Spears Center for the Arts in downtown Columbia on North Main Street, 1301 Columbia College Drive.  Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.  For further information about exhibits please contact Jackie Adams at (803) 786-3899.
