The welcome message was led by John C.B. Smith Jr., chair of the Columbia College board of trustees where he made a call to graduates to give a standing ovation to the congregation, noting family, friends and faculty.

Carol Moore, Ph.D., president of the college took the podium after Smith and presented Jeanne Phillips, Dear Abby advice columnist, the honorary degree. This was followed with an address by Phillips where she spoke to the graduates, noting the need to be “less judgemental and kind to yourself.”

Graduates took to social media to show their gratitude to Columbia College for their last four years.
