If you wake up and immediately feel the urge to stay in bed to avoid any unlucky mishaps Friday the 13th, you may have friggatriskaidekaphobia.

There are no clear explanations for why the number ‘13’ is an unlucky number but one theory is “the number 12 traditionally signifies completeness: There are 12 signs of the zodiac, 12 months of the year, 12 hours on the clock and 12 tribes of Israel, among other famous dozens,” Jennie Cohen, writer for History’s website, said. “Anywhere outside a bakery, then, 13 is considered a transgression of this rule.”
