Nikki Haley delivered her state of the state address at the statehouse on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

2015 had certainly been a challenging year for South Carolina, and Haley made sure to address the issues that matter to South Carolina residents, things such as road repair, reform in the schools and domestic violence.

Domestic violence has been a prominent problem in South Carolina. Haley said that a special task force was being made to protect victims of domestic violence and to ensure their safety once out from under their abuser. She also said that victims would now have access to a certified defense attorney in court, as opposed to being represented by a police officer.

Education, and the funding of it, has always been a recurring topic in South Carolina. Haley’s plan for rectifying this topic is to provide funds to rural area K-12 schools that do not have access to many amenities, as opposed to large universities like the University of South Carolina and Clemson University.
